I was going to recreate a personal project that I did in Mantra with VEX shaders as I wanted to utilize the power of Karma XPU and GPU rendering to produce an 8K render.
So I spent some time fumbling around in MaterialX and Karma, so you don’t need to and here’s what I think you should know if you are going to use MaterialX and Karma.
By the end of the video, you will understand when to use MaterialX shaders and when to go back to our beloved VEX Shaders as well as some of the nuances in using Karma for projects at the moment.
While, I did re-create and render this in Karma in 8K, the lighting, I ended up just re-rendering this in mantra in 8K, because the lights were just slightly different enough to make the final image less punchy.
Nonetheless, I did learnt a bunch of things in the process that I will be taking to future projects in MaterialX and Karma and I hope you will benefit from my “discoveries” 😂.
